‘He’s the finished article,’ Dunne said of the 2023 Ballon d’Or winner

The 2023 Ballon d’Or contest between Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland has been evaluated by Richard Dunne, a former Manchester City captain.

It’s possible that either Messi or Haaland may wind up as this year’s Ballon d’Or victor.

When asked by GOAL if Haaland had a chance to win the Ballon d’Or this year, former defender Dunne stated, “From a numbers point of view, he’s been impenetrable.

He has been crucial to Man City’s success. In retrospect, the missing natural number nine may have been the deciding factor in whether or not they would have gone on to win the Champions League.

I’m aware of the fact that he didn’t score in the playoffs, but he’s still a problem since everyone has to mark him. They may use two of them if necessary. He makes room for things elsewhere.

Regardless of the criteria used to award the Ballon d’Or, I have no doubt that Lionel Messi is the superior football player. Even as talented as Haaland is, he still has room for development.

“He could still be better outside the box and getting more involved in games,” said the coach, “but if you are looking at out-and-out goal-scorers, there is nobody in the world who can touch Haaland.”

On October 30, the winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or will be revealed.
